SupplyCore Provides Integrated Logistics Solutions
Vice President, Corporate Development
David Hahn, Vice President of Corporate Development
"It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory." This quote by Edward Deming rings true for many of us both in our personal and professional lives
As a Department of Defense contactor, SupplyCore has experienced tremendous change in the past few years in how the various Federal agencies we serve plan for and execute their procurement strategy. In fact we anticipate that for the next three to five years the only constant we will see is change.
Changes in government procurement law and regulation have occurred with greater frequency in the past three years than in the previous several. The recent change in control of both houses of Congress and the fast approaching 2008 Presidential elections have resulted in increased visibility into the means by which the federal government procures goods and services. A flood of new legislation covering everything from creating new taxes on contractors to ethics reforms to revisions in contracting thresholds are all underway or have been proposed.
Changes in growth strategy are also constantly being explored. SupplyCore’s recent acquisition of the Manufacturing Alliance of the Rock River Valley (MARRV) is one example of how we are entering new markets and industries. As a corporation we are evaluating other opportunities for growth through acquisition of businesses in both existing and new markets, pursuing contracting vehicles outside of our traditional base, and becoming more involved in the non-federal sector by working with OEM’s and other Aerospace and Defense firms in providing manufacturing, integrated supply, and channel market management.
Changes in our corporate structure have been implemented to better support our current operating environment as well as our growth objectives. The solidification of the SupplyCore Supplies Group, the acquisition of MARRV, and the pending move into our new offices are all indications of the changes we are experiencing today.
Because it is necessary to change.

SupplyCore Turns 20

SupplyCore Celebrates
20 Years: 1987-2007

Founded in 1987 as Pro Technical Products by Al Provenzano, SupplyCore had its beginnings as a traditional supplier of mechanical components for the Aerospace and Defense Industries. It was literally a one-room operation housed in a former factory in Rockford, Illinois. It would be a year before Pro Tech, as it was called, would win its first contract with the DoD. Shortly after receiving its first contract award, Terry Provenzano joined her husband at Pro Tech. By the early 1990's Pro Tech had more than 10 employees and had expanded its service offering to include aftermarket parts for the Agricultural and Construction Industries.
Begining in the mid-90s, the government started to change the way they bought, bases were closing down and a new initiative was coming out of the DLA called the Prime Vendor Program. Pro Tech began offering integrated supply and web-based procurement services for MRO materials in 1997 with a staff of just 12 employees.
On June 11, 1998, Pro Tech was awarded its first DLA MRO Prime Vendor Contract to serve as the sole source for all MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) materials for military bases in the North Central Region of the United States. It was around this time that our name changed to SupplyCore.
It wasn't long before SupplyCore was awarded similar contracts in Japan, Okinawa, Spain, and the Southeastern Region of the US. In 2003, SupplyCore was awarded Iraq, which eventually paved the way for being awarded the expanded CENTCOM contract.

In March, the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP) awarded SupplyCore a one-year extension to its MRO Prime Vendor Pacific Region contract. Under this contract (SPM500-05-D-BP06), SupplyCore provides MRO supplies and related services to the U.S. military and federal civilian agencies in the Pacific region which consists of Mainland Japan, Okinawa, Diego Garcia, and Singapore.

As of March 1, 2007, MARRV, the Manufacturing Alliance of the Rock River Valley, officially became a part of SupplyCore.  The Rock River Valley (RRV) Area encompasses Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and Stephenson counties in northern Illinois.  Created in May 2004, MARRV’s purpose was to combine the core competencies of small manufacturers to pursue larger projects than the individual companies could pursue on their own.
The Rock River Valley has a heritage of manufacturing since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.  Over the past twenty years, industry consolidation and corporate downsizing has eliminated scores of larger manufacturers from the area.  The remaining infrastructure of small shops has over 1,300 manufacturers with 84% employing fewer than 99 employees and 76% employing fewer than 49 employees.
Solutions that MARRV provides to SupplyCore customers include:

- Supply Chain Management Support
Reduced quoting time, identification of new suppliers in less time and technical support.

- Reduction in the Supply Base
Through the use of flexible manufacturing networks, a lead company working with a group of companies would be the single source for a customer's procurement needs.

- Higher Value Supplier
By carefully building the right team of companies, a major assembly or product could be produced.

Bennett and Jonelis Honored with Bronze Arrows

The winner of SupplyCore's fourth quarter 2006 Bronze Arrow Award was Lori Bennett, Contract Manager.  SupplyCore had been inundated with audit requests by DLA and GSA for much of the last six months of 2006.  In December, we were notified that six auditors and two contracting professionals would be onsite for an audit of over 100 lines.  Full detail and documentation was required to be available upon arrival.
SupplyCore received less than a week’s notice.  Despite a medical condition requiring a pending surgery, Lori worked extra hours and the weekend to complete the requirement. In fact, she was in the office just hours after a very painful test procedure on a Saturday preparing materials.
After the audit was completed, SupplyCore was verbally notified by the lead auditor that we “met and exceeded their expectations.”

David Jonelis, Business Analyst, earned the Bronze Arrow Award for the first quarter of 2007.  Over several months, and especially since January, David performed above and beyond by working extra hours, learning new programming, and tapping extra resources in the analysis and evaluation of new opportunities and their requirements.
David’s work in not only forecasting inventory requirements but also in performing detailed trend analysis (both progressive and regressive) has proven to be a very valuable tool in evaluating opportunities and creating strategies.  His work has also helped to give SupplyCore even greater credibility in discussions with the Department of Defense and with our industry peers.

For their achievements, Lori and David earned $1,500, a SupplyCore Bronze Arrow pin, and a place on the Bronze Arrow Plaque at the Corporate office.  Lori and David’s commitment exemplifies the best of SupplyCore.
